Taiwan’s Legislative, Presidential elections set for 2016

February 16, 2015

TAIPEI – Taiwan’s Legislative and Presidential elections will be held concurrently in 2016 – probably in January. Taiwan’s Central Election Commission says a recent survey by the commission shows that 68.4% of respondents favour holding the two ballots side by side.

CEC Chairman, Liu I-chou, said synchronised Legislative and Presidential elections in 2012 helped lift voter turnout by 16% to 3.3 million voters, from the 2008 single-member district legislative race.
The most likely polling day is expected to be January 16, 2016, before the eighth term of the Legislature ends. The CEC will make an official announcement next month after consultations with regional election commissions. www.taiwantoday.tw (ATI).
