China tells Japan to “walk the talk” in improving ties

August 9, 2017

BEIJING - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday urged Japan to "walk the talk" and put its positive expression of improving ties with China into action, China’s State newsagency, Xinhua, reported.

As close neighbours, the long stalemate between China and Japan was not in the interest of either side, nor would it benefit regional peace and stability, Wang said at a meeting with Taro Kono, who recently became Japan’s Foreign Minister.

Xinhua said Wang also explained China's position on the South China Sea issue, urging Japan to respect the fact that the situation had stabilised and to respect the efforts made by China and members of ASEAN in this regard.

He called on Japan to play a more constructive role in regional peace and stability, instead of following other countries' lead to stir up troubles. www.webershandwick.cn (ATI).
